Sound & Image

Biography

Al has been working in film, television and music sound production for over 13 years. His foray into sound was post-production; specializing in audio-mixing, dialogue-editing, ADR, foley and sound design. This experience instilled in him how vital and interwoven the pre-, post- and production elements are to sound as a storytelling medium for image. Carrying this into freelance location sound work, Al became known for his commitment and dedication to the craft.

Working in various countries throughout Asia on multilingual shorts, features, documentaries, television and TVC productions, his clientele includes Disney, Discovery, National Geographic and MTV among others. One of his personal highlights includes working with his childhood idol, Jackie Chan. Al's array of work also includes camera operation, vision mixing and camera-directing, for performances by Laura Fygi, Jay Chou, Linkin Park and Michael Buble, to name a few. Throughout his career, his true love and passion lies in sound, regardless of the project's commercial value. Al gains great satisfaction from achieving excellence in sound not least for its "out of sight, out of mind" underdog nature of psychology.

Short Statement: Sound is everywhere - within, without and around us. Our ears never sleep. Developing active listening from mundane passive hearing is a vital journey for an artist.

Be it analogue or digital, sound works across an empty canvas, in tandem with image. Combining fundamentals of sound design, production, sonic-manipulations and knowledge gleamed from history, the art of storytelling with sound will transcend within you as an artist; to affect how we perceive the world aesthetically and emotionally, and influence — even alter — what we see.
