Organic Motion Technology Selected for Motion Capture Studio

Students in Singapore will use world’s first markerless motion capture system
SINGAPORE – New York University Tisch School of the Arts Asia has selected Organic Motion’s technology for its motion capture studio in the Department of Animation and Digital Arts.
Organic Motion’s markerless motion capture system, STAGE™, introduces several unprecedented features for real-time 3D human tracking. This breakthrough technology unlocks human motions and frees the subject – allowing every person to be sized and tracked instantly without wearing any kind of physical markers. In essence, Organic Motion creates a natural interface to capture and analyze the millions of complex motions performed by people. This unique ability enables Organic Motion to propel motion capture beyond its current use in animation and production or research facilities and become a driving force in an explosion of computer vision applications.
“We plan to use Organic Motion’s technology for creating interactive animation about storytelling traditions. Our next motion capture projects will explore theater, dance, gestures and postures in Asian culture and also emphasize collaborations between motion capture classes in New York and Singapore,” said Jean-Marc Gauthier, director of the Animation and Digital Arts program.
At Tisch Asia, Animation and Digital Arts Students are immersed in a unique creative environment that teaches the traditional forms of the art of animation and explores a sandbox of advanced techniques and digital technologies. From capturing the motion of a dancer to animating facial expressions following a human voice, students explore ways to re-create motion and to create relationships through storytelling. Students earn a Master of Fine Arts degree.
