The History of Animation

ANDA-GT.2103.901       4 Credits

Instructor: Thomas Thesen

The Animation History class has various goals. Firstly we will explore the development of animation throughout the 20th century and its technical and artistic influences and secondly we will discuss specific animated shorts and features, evaluate animation-style, storytelling and technique and therefore finally understand why certain films have animation-historical value. All different animation techniques will be presented and examined both by their aesthetic - as well as their technical achievements. Each week we will focus on the animation development in different countries. The lectures will be accompanied by the presentation of animated shorts during class and additional evening screenings once a week.

Open to Film, Dramatic Writing and Producing students.
