H68.2247.901_doc1 4 Credits
The central aim of the course is to equip students with an understanding of and facility with the basic techniques of successful documentary and factual program development and production in today’s commercial marketplace, whether in pursuit of buyers of long-form theatrical docs or broadcasters commissioning programs for air on existing television and cable strands. The growing interest of audiences worldwide in doc and factual programs, combined with steady advances in tech, have made production more affordable and accessible, which offers filmmakers more opportunities than ever to get films to air, and get paid in the process. This course will prepare you to take advantage of that opportunity—from development to sale or commissioning.
Our main attention will be on subjects, themes and techniques that sell in today’s marketplace, and your “take-away” from this course will be a professional-quality treatment and/or 3-5 min pitch reel for a proposed film or program of your choice.
