Message from the Chair of the Graduate Film Program
The graduate film school is a three-year program in which students write and direct a series of short films and exercises organized to master the art of filmmaking. This effort culminates in a thesis project designed to allow the artists voice to come to full bloom and to show evidence of their skill to potential employers.
In the first year, the curriculum concentrates on building the students communications skills through craft. These include classes in basic cinematography, directing, writing, editing, sound recording and producing.
The second year focuses on the aesthetics of film as an art form and a prime social force.
The intent of the third year is to bridge the academic and professional arenas. To this end we have instituted internships, mentor ships and work projects from hundreds of media related companies here in the tri-state area.
All faculty are working professionals.
Tisch Graduate Film has trained some of the finest writers, directors, cinematographers, producers, and editors in the film industry. We will maintain this tradition in Singapore by insuring that the faculty, equipment, and facilities are of the same quality that have been established at the New York campus, and by implementing the curriculum, projects, and exercises that demand a level of rigor and exploration from you that is the hallmark of a Tisch education.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of filmmaking with all current and future graduate film students.
Sincerely,
David K. Irving
