Adjunct Instructor - Accounting for Media Producers

New York University, Tisch School of the Arts Asia is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach an introductory course in Accounting for Media Producers, in the MFA International Media Producing Program for Spring 2012 (March to May 2012). 

Teaching experience and knowledge of film/television and arts finance is essential. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with media budgeting and cost control.

A background in Accounting and its application in the Film, TV and New Media industries would be very helpful. Therefore, a background in creative industries is important. The ideal candidate will have an MA/MBA with a focus on Media or Film/TV and New Media.

Financial Accounting  - 2 credits

This introductory course seeks to teach the basics of accounting, and media finance. It will explore the role of financial planning in the life-cycle of media projects. Students will be taught how to prepare key financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow). Students will learn how to set-up a production company and do basic company reports. The course seeks to explore the wider context of financial planning in the development, funding, marketing and distribution of Film, TV, Transmedia, Animation and Stage productions.

Requirements:

  • Excellent educational qualifications (An MBA or relevant Masters degree at a minimum)
  • At least 5 years industry experience with preferably 2 years' teaching experience in a similar capacity
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to impart knowledge and share industry experiences
  • Ability to teach both day and evening classes

As we will not be able to sponsor work/employment passes for this adjunct position, candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in Singapore.
