Biography

Deborah Lapidus has worked in Films like "Evening" (vocal coach to Claire Danes) and "The Girl In the Park" (vocal coach to Sigourney Weaver). Also with Ms. Weaver, "Snow White: A Tale of Terror" (Showtime Films).  Broadway: "33 Variations" (singing coach to Jane Fonda)"After The Fall" ( vocal coach to Carla Gugino) and assoc. musical director for "Waiting in the Wings" (w/ Lauren Bacall and Rosemary Harris).  Carnegie Hall: Vocal coach for "Bernstein: The Best of All Possible Worlds, which was also seen on PBS Great Performances Musical directing credits include  "Misia" (world premiere˜Ravinia Festival), "Camelot" and "My Fair Lady" (Berkshire Theatre Festival),"Waiting for Lefty" (Blue Light Theatre, dir: Joanne Woodward), and  countless seasons at Williamstown Theatre Festival  music directing shows including "A Little Night Music", "1776", A Funny Thing..." and "Marat/Sade".  Also seven seasons directing their acclaimed cabaret, featuring such artists as James Naughton, Blythe Danner, Ann Reinking, Nathan Lane., and Christopher and Dana Reeve. Just completed her second season as an on camera master teacher on "Triple Sensation" for the CBC in Canada. Musical Directed "The Fitzgeralds" (Writers In Performance series at Manhattan Theatre Club, with Alec Baldwin). Was the musical consultant on "Someone Who‚ll Watch Over Me" (Westport Playhouse) Directed "The Lerner and Loewe Revue" at Rainbow and Stars, and  "Chris Durang and Dawne" (Caroline‚s, Triad, The Criterion Center). Has directed for Opera Omaha, Chautauqua Opera, and Texas Opera Theatre. Has musical directed shows at the Denver Theatre Center, The Long Wharf, and the Musical Theatre Conference at the Eugene O‚ Neill Center. Ms.Lapidus was Assoc. Musical Director for "A Little Night Music" at Ahmanson at the Doolitle, and "Lucy‚s Lapses" at Playwrights Horizons.  Currently an Associate Arts Professor at New York University where she has served as a full time teacher since 1981. She serves on the faculty of the Juilliard School. She has been a guest lecturer for the Arts Educational Schools in London, and has been interviewed  for GQ Magazine. Most recently she was a guest on National Public Radio's "Sound Check".
