Brave Girl is a narrative short exploring con-artists of the sex industry in India through the lens of a young Nepali girl.
Erin with Inka Trollsas and the Himalayan Adventure Girls, 2010.
Captivated by scenic Nepal, Erin was determined to shoot in the beautiful mountainous country. Through Inka, Erin soon learnt that there is a darker side to Nepal, extreme poverty, low literacy, high illness, and political strife and the plight of Nepali women.
Girls were disappearing from mountain villages at an alarming rate, never to be heard from again. Sex trafficking was such a common thing.

With further research interviewing trafficking victims, NGO workers, and issue experts, Erin started to imagine what this journey must be like for a young girl, expecting to leave her village for the adventure of a lifetime, to see the world, and work to support her family, only to be tricked into a lifetime of prostitution. The more stories she heard, the less she understood. This was compelling to me as both a filmmaker and a compassionate activist. Thus the idea for the movie was born.
Brave Girl is the story of a 13-year-old girl craving opportunity and adventure, who takes the first chance to leave her rural Nepali village with her new friend Krishna. He guides her through the hauntingly beautiful Himalayas into the chaos of urban Kathmandu, where she quickly discovers the rules of this world are different than her own. As they close in on the Indian border, Bumika races to unwravel Krishna's dangerous plan. Can she save herself before her fate is out of her control?
