Immigration, Passports & Visas

Passport

Students attending NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia who are not citizens or permanent residents of Singapore will need a passport, valid for at least 6 months from the date they enter Singapore.

Student Pass

Students who are not citizens or permanent residents of Singapore are required to apply for a student pass through the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.  The student pass is a required document in Singapore, serving to officially register the student within the country.  In addition, the student pass is also required for everything from renting an apartment to opening a bank account.

Tisch Asia will give instructions to students explaining how to apply online for a student pass. Please note that a student cannot apply for a student pass until they have obtained a passport. There is a nominal annual fee for the student pass.

Entry Visas

Citizens of certain countries are required to obtain an entry visa before entering Singapore. For incoming Tisch Asia students, the entry visa application is part of the student pass application. More information on visas as well as a complete list of countries requiring entry visas is available from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

Copies of Documents

It is strongly suggested that students carry a copy of their passport, and the relevant stamped Singapore visa pages as well. Keep the copy separate from your passport, in the event you lose one.  It is also recommended that you allow a friend or relative keep a second copy that can serve as back-up in the case of an emergency.
