Policies And Procedures

Professional Courses

The policies, requirements, course offerings, schedules, activities, tuition, fees, and calendar of the school are subject to change without notice at any time at the sole discretion of the administration. Such changes may be of any nature, including, but not limited to, the elimination of programs, classes, or activities; the relocation or modification of the content of any of the foregoing; and the cancellation of scheduled classes or academic activities. Payment of tuition or attendance at any classes shall constitute a student’s acceptance of the administration’s rights as set forth in the above paragraph. The following academic policies and procedures are specific to students enrolled in professional courses.

ID CARDS
NYU requires all students, faculty, and staff to carry NYU ID cards. NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia Professional Course students are issued a Tisch Asia photo ID card.  Professional Course students are issued a nonphoto Tisch Asia ID card each term when they receive their registration confirmation; this nonphoto ID provides access to classroom buildings. Professional course students must carry this nonphoto ID with them in addition to their own photo ID and their registration confirmation.

ATTENDANCE
Although the administration of Tisch Asia does not supervise attendance of classes, students are expected to attend all classes. Please be aware that some programs take attendance into consideration in final grades. Students who, in the judgment of the instructor, have not substantially met the requirements of the course or who have been excessively absent may be considered to have withdrawn unofficially and may be given the final grade of "F." (fail) See Withdrawing from Courses for more information.
Students who miss class for medical reasons are required to notify their instructor of their absence and may be asked to produce a doctor’s documentation of treatment at the next class. Students who plan to miss classes for religious reasons are expected to inform instructors beforehand and be responsible for assignments given during their absence.

RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS AND ATTENDANCE

New York University, as a nonsectarian institution, adheres to the general policy of including in its official calendar certain legal and national holidays. However, it has also long been University policy that members of any religious group may, without penalty, absent themselves from classes when compliance with their religious obligations requires it. In 1988, the University Senate affirmed this policy and passed a resolution that elaborated on it as follows:
Students who anticipate being absent because of any religious observance should, whenever possible, notify faculty in advance of such anticipated absence. Whenever feasible, examinations and assignment deadlines should not be scheduled on religious holidays. Any student absent from class because of religious beliefs shall not be penalized for any class, examination, or assignment deadline missed on that day or days. If examinations or assignment deadlines are scheduled, any student who is unable to attend class because of religious beliefs shall be given the opportunity to make up that day or days. No adverse or prejudicial effects shall result to any student who avails him/herself of the above provisions.

ARREARS POLICY
The university reserves the right to deny registration and withhold information regarding the record of any student who is in arrears in the payment of tuition, fees, loans, or other charges for as long as any arrears remain.

GRADING POLICY
Unless otherwise specifically stated, all Tisch Asia Professional Courses are Pass/Fail. Students who satisfactorily complete coursework will be issued a Certificate of Completion. The Certificate of Completion provides a measurement of 1) how much the student has learned of the delivered body of knowledge, 2) how effectively the student is able to use that knowledge, and 3) other optional standards, such as class participation and, if essential to coursework, actual class attendance/lateness record (such attendance requirements are established by the faculty).

Note: There is no charge for academic transcripts; however, the limit for official transcripts issued to the student, whether by mail or in person, is three. No exceptions may be granted to the three-transcript limit policy.

WITHDRAWALS, AND REFUNDS
Withdrawals: Students who wish to withdraw from, or for any reason find it impossible to complete a continuing education course should officially withdraw. Requests to withdraw (drops only) from Professional courses can be made at any time by mail,

Professional Courses,
New York University Tisch School of the Arts Asia
3 Kay Siang Road, Singapore, 248923;

by fax, + 65 6500 1719; or in person.

Merely ceasing to attend a class does not constitute official withdrawal, nor does notification to the instructor. Cancellation of payment does not constitute withdrawal, nor does it reduce indebtedness to the university; in this case, a penalty of $25 for late payment and $10 for stop-payment (subject to change without notice) must be charged.
Refund Policy:  Refunds are computed based on the date and time the written or faxed notice of withdrawal is received by the Office of Professional Courses. In addition, refunds are based on the number of class sessions for the course that have met between the time of registration and withdrawal.
Withdrawal does not necessarily entitle a student to a refund—nor to a cancellation of tuition still due.
The refund schedule is as follows.

For Professional Courses:

   1. Prior to the first session—100% refund.

   2. Student withdraws before the 3rd session of a course with six or more sessions—75% refund. No refund thereafter.

   3. Student withdraws before the 3rd session of a four- to five-session course—60% refund. No refund thereafter.

   4. Student has attended any session of a one- to three-session course—no refund

SECURITY
Security cameras and electronic locks have been installed for the safety of the Tisch Asia community. Security officers will be present onsite and all students, staff, and visitors will be required to cooperate with the officers’ requests to follow procedures, including sign-in procedures. First aid kits are available in case of an emergency and fire safety procedures have been implemented. Please see the Tisch Asia administration for further details.

SMOKING, DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Tisch Asia is a smoke-free campus, and smoking is prohibited in and outside of the Tisch Asia building and facilities, with the exception of designated smoking areas. Any student who is caught smoking on campus will be subject to the Tisch Asia disciplinary procedures. Possession, consumption, and trafficking of drugs are expressly forbidden and subject to Singapore law. Alcohol is only permitted during school-sanctioned events.
