East Meets West: Entrepreneurship and Communication

This class discusses the on-going evolution of the animation business while dealing with issues of globalization. Students discover how to manage complex projects working with individuals located around the world. They develop an expertise in nurturing relationships with a diversity of individuals and networking for collaborative work. The class covers the ‘animator’s survival kit’ of useful skills, from writing a contract, and protecting intellectual property, to running a production studio, nurturing innovation, promoting personal work and communicating about new ideas. Topics covered are illustrated with case studies from animation, gaming, film and entertainment. Students also learn to use the Web in order to promote and broadcast a professional portfolio.
