Biography
Dr. Pieter (Pia) Aquilia has lectured film and television since 1988 at the University of New South Wales Asia, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, Macquarie University, Curtin University and Edith Cowan University in Australia. She is currently Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle and adjunct faculty at Tisch Asia in Singapore.She is a graduate in film scriptwriting and direction from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School; she has an extensive background as a scriptwriter, script editor and director in film and television, including Life Stories (Singapore), Water Rats, Heartbreak High, Totally Wild and E Street (Australia). She is a regular consultant for television drama, dramatized documentary and news for broadcasters in Southeast Asia.
Her novel, Daughters of the Mob, was a finalist for the 1997 Vogel Award for literature. She has also won range of awards, including AWGIE, ATOM and Asian Television Award nominations for her film, television and video work. She is the author of texts, chapters and journal articles on film, television and new media in Australasia.
