The Neighborhood

NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia is located in central Singapore, just a 5-minute drive to downtown Orchard Road and a 15-minute drive to the Central Business District (CBD). Bus stops are nearby, and the Redhill MRT Station is about a 15-minute walk from campus. Students seeking to live in the vicinity of the Tisch Asia campus should consider the following neighborhoods.

Tanglin View

Tisch Asia is located in the Tanglin View area of Singapore’s Bukit Merah/Redhill neighborhood, within District 10 of the city. The neighborhood is home to several embassies, shopping centers, famous eateries and apartment complexes.

Redhill / Bukit Merah

Bukit Merah is a residential neighborhood comprising mostly HDB (government-subsidized) flats. Here, rentals are significantly more affordable than those in District 10, and yet may be just as close to campus. Like most HDB estates, Bukit Merah is self-sufficient, with its own markets, eateries, parks, library, sports complex and public swimming pool. The Redhill MRT station is about a 15-minute walk from campus. Alternatively, bus service 132 will take you directly to the bus stop closest to campus.

Tiong Bahru

Tiong Bahru is adjacent to Bukit Merah and just one MRT stop away from the Redhill MRT station. The neighborhood boasts an interesting mix of pre-war flats, art-deco apartments and traditional shop-house architecture. Although it is one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore, and therefore popular with seniors, the neighborhood has seen a resurgence of young singles and couples calling it home in recent years. Tiong Bahru boasts not only an eclectic mix of residents, but is also home to renown eating establishments, a shopping mall and a popular market.

Queenstown / Alexandra

Although most of the residences here are HDB flats, there are a few condominiums, markets and smaller shopping centres as well. The Queenstown MRT station is also just one stop away from the Redhill MRT station, and there is a direct public bus service to campus from some parts of Queenstown.

River Valley and Grange Road

Popular among expatriates and wealthy locals, the River Valley/Grange Road areas are residential neighborhoods within District 10, where you will find many condominiums and private apartments. The proximity to Orchard Road and the Central Business District keeps rentals high, despite the lack of an MRT station nearby. Within this district, you will find a large shopping mall complete with supermarket and fully-equipped gymnasium, some hotels and popular nightspots.
