Aesthetics II: Story, Shape & Development
H68.2011.901 2 Credits
The class will teach basic 3-act structure and character development. Students will learn how films are built by watching and then deconstructing 6 films. The films have been chosen for this class because they each help to relate structure and characterization to genre. In addition to teaching students to be comfortable with structure and characterization techniques, analyzing these 6 movies will demonstrate different uses of time, conflict, story shape, themes and use of dialogue in terms of text and subtext. In class we will review clips from the films the students have screened for the specific class and will deconstruct and analyze what they have seen.
