Biography

Amos Ezra Katz

By his eighth month, Amos Ezra Katz had experienced half the United States from the hatchback of a green 1972 AMC Gremlin.   The car broke down in Toledo, Ohio.  Growing up in sub-zero winters gave him a deep appreciation of moon boots, down feathers, and the Golden Nugget Saloon, a local, and warm, Minnetonka haunt.  Another road trip at age 9 brought him to the East Coast for good, this time in an orange 1973 Volvo wagon.  This car also broke down in Toledo.

Amos’s first Super8 short at age 11, “Rambo Goes to Summer School,” screened at King Phillip Middle School, Room 201.

For many years, Amos thought the key to understanding the human heart was by studying its anatomy.  After a long hiatus from filmmaking, Amos left his surgical residency behind, and happily continues his examination of the heart through film.

In 2008, he left his collection of Super8 cameras and an old wooden tripod in New York City, and headed west to Singapore. This time, without stopping in Toledo.

Amos teaches the cinematography (Motion Picture Camera Techniques II) at Tisch Asia and has worked with Robert Primes, ASC, Matt Siegel, Steve Fierberg, ASC, Tony Jannelli, amongst other DPs. He has also taught at New York Film Academy.

He was the Director of Photography of  "WIANBU" which was nominated for 2008 Student Academy Award for Best Short (see CV) and got Honorable Mention for Cinematography at the Sehsüchte International Film Festival in Potsdam-Babelsburg, Germany.

Amos directed a short "M ET M" that was screened at the Avignon Film Festival in France and the Santa Fe Film Festival in the United States.
